Getting the referral
In the April 2020 I had taken up a challenge to create 31 react components.
I had finished this challenge in may and shared the news on Twitter, Linkedin, and Dev.to.
My article on Dev.to got shared and I got really good response for it, after which I have written a post on linkedin regarding how I created 31 react components while working full and written articles about them.
This post was shared by many in my connection and I got a message from Product manager from JIO who was working in the IOT department. He said they are looking for someone like me and would I like to interview.
I agreed because even though I have a good job I agree to interview for whoever asks me as it really helps me to keep my knowledge in check.
May 2020 was the worst month of year due to Covid-19 pandemic and many people have already lost their job. On the other hand JIO was getting major investment so I thought if I will make it then it will help me in job security.
I had already interviewed for JIO previously and was aware of the process but got rejected in the last round because JIO only hires BTech and/or higher or equivalent degree.
I discussed the same with the person who contacted me on linkedin and asked him to make sure that my degree won’t be hurdle at the later stage and he confirmed the same.
Interview process
There were in total 4 rounds.
- ReactJs
- DSA
- Background and culture fit.
- Head of the department.
Reactjs
They discussed about different projects which I have done, how I create and manage components, thinking in react, optimization, server side rendering.
How I handle bundling, what is my approach of development, unit testing, etc.
DSA
In this round he asked me to write a program to reverse the last k elements in a queue but with a twist. He said you cannot use stack to reverse use linked-list instead. I was able to do it with all the edge cases.
Background and cultural fit.
This was the longest of all of them and the interview asked question on my each work experience in the all the different organization for which I have worked till now.
Type of work I have done, how manage clients, deadlines, team work, stress, pressure, and all other things.
Head of the department
He also checked the background and all things and why I am looking for switch and what are my expectations, what will be the work like, what they are doing, etc.
As everyone was working from home during the pandemic this process took around 2 weeks with one happening after the another.
Offer and Beyond
The HR contacted my and asked me to create my profile on JIO’s career site and then requested me to fill all the details so that they can draft the offer.
The offer which they have given me was not good. Even though the CTC’s was greater than my current but the in-hand salary was the same.
I tried to negotiate but they said that’s the max they can give. So I politely turned down the offer, because it was no good for me.
